Workplace bullying guidance material released

06-Jan-2014

New guidance material on preventing and responding to workplace bullying was released by Safe Work Australia in late 2013.

The guidance was originally proposed as a Code of Practice, but was downgraded to a guide after two rounds of public commentary and consultation with Safe Work Australia members. This process was part of the harmonisation of workplace health and safety (WHS) legislation that has been continuing for some years across Australia.

The new guide includes important material on investigations, confidentiality and transparency, as well as basic information about what bullying is and is not, and the approach organisations should take in a manner consistent with other health and safety duties.

Organsations should be looking to the guide for assistance when reviewing their bullying procedures and controls. The guide is also likely to be of use for businesses wanting to consider potential exposure to the new Fair Work Commission arrangements related to workplace bullying. A guide for workers is also available.

See the guide and accompanying information at the Safe Work Australia website.
